The AYUSH Ministry, Govt. of India has constituted a Task Group to address the concerns and issues of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy (ASU&H) Drugs Industry. Dr. D.C. Katoch, Advisor (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH is the Chairman of this Task Group, comprising eleven people. Khalid Md Saifullah, Chairman of Naturoveda Group & Editor-in-Chief of Health Companion has been made the representative of the Eastern region of this Group. Among the other representatives is Dr. P. M. Varier of Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal for Southern region, Dr. J.P. Singh of Shree Dhanvantary for Northern region, Shashank Sandu of Sandu Brothers for Western region, and Bhaskar Asthana, General Secretary of U. P. Drug Manufacturers Association for Central region. Hamdard’s Hamid Ahmad, President of Unani Drugs Manufacturers Association is present in the Group along with Chandubhai Bhanushali from Gujarat Ayurvedic Aushadh Manufacturers Association (GAAMA). Also present in this Group are J. K. Rajagopal of Dr. JRK’s Siddha Research and Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., and Mukund D. Shreshtha of SBL. Dr. Pradeep Dua, Drug Control Cell, Ministry of AYUSH is the Convener of the Group.
This Task Group, which was constituted on this 19th of June according to a notification of Govt. of India, shall steer the actions that may be required to systematically address the concerns and issues of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy (ASU&H) Drugs Industry. In accordance, this group shall meet every 3 months. In this relation, Mr. Saifullah confirmed the same by saying that the Government has taken the right step forward. The Chairman of the Group, Dr. Katoch is not only a Scholar of Ayurveda but also a very honest & committed person. Renowned people from different sectors of the society wished Khalid Md Saifullah, on the occasion of him being chosen to discharge responsible duties in the Eastern part of India. Amongst them include Shyam Sundar Sharma – Secretary of Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturers Association of India (ADMAI), Syed Ahmed Khan – General Secretary of All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC), Bharat Sharma – Director of Ganga Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Bipin Jameria – Secretary of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Dr. Md. Khalid – Assistant Drug Controller (Unani) Directorate of AYUSH, Shailesh Shah – Director of Shree Unjha Pharmacy, Naushad Ahmed – Convener of Unani Drugs Manufacturers Association (UDMA), Dr. Akhilesh Khan – Ex Principal of D. N. De Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain – Registrar of West Bengal State Council of Unani Medicine, Dr. P.C. Tripathi – Retired Professor of Institute of Post Graduate Ayurvedic Education & Research, and Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma – Vice President of Emami Ltd.
The Manufacturers of Drugs related to Natural Treatment have always felt a need of such a Task Group under the Central AYUSH Ministry. This Group could help mitigate the problems associated with this Industry. Mr. Saifullah stated that while it is an honour to represent the Eastern region, it throws different challenges as well. It is worth mentioning, that this joining of Mr. Saifullah in the Task Group will be noticed with great expectations in the entire Eastern India. Mr. Saifullah further said that the AYUSH Ministry has been doing remarkable work, especially under the leadership of AYUSH Minister, Shripad Yesso Naik. It is anticipated that the formation of the Task Group will help in solving many problems. The priority would be to enhance the quality of drugs as well as make the medicines available at affordable price. The other issue of importance would be to resolve the difficulties faced by Drug Manufacturers in relation to the export of medicines, by setting the right standards.
